Hurricane Milton advisory, impact on operations

hurricane milton 100924

This advisory was sent by John Greene Logistics Company BB #:108358 Titusville, FL, on October 8, 2024:

Hurricane Milton is projected to make landfall on Florida’s west coast Wednesday night, with the current path aiming towards the Tampa Bay area.

The early effects of the storm are expected to begin along the western coastline of Florida between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Although the hurricane’s intensity has varied, it remains a dangerous storm and is expected to cause significant impact at landfall.

Key Updates for Drivers:
Starting Tuesday night or early Wednesday, the western coast of Florida faces a growing threat of severe storm surges and damaging winds. Storm Surge and Hurricane Watches are now in effect across parts of both the west and east coasts of Florida.

Heavy rainfall has already begun affecting parts of Florida ahead of the storm. The heaviest rainfall is expected from Wednesday through Thursday, bringing risks of flash flooding, urban flooding, and significant river flooding across impacted areas.

Traffic & Evacuation:
Major interstates in and out of the Tampa area are heavily congested with evacuees. Florida’s Governor has recommended downloading the FL511 app or to visit FL511.com for real-time updates on road and bridge closures, as well as possible detours.

Mandatory evacuations are in place, and we anticipate delays of 48-96 hours for any shipments moving to or from affected areas. Due to potential road closures and redirected traffic for evacuation efforts, we’re working closely with shippers and carriers to stage and hold cargo where necessary until it’s safe to resume delivery across Central and South Florida.
