In the 2023-2024 campaign, Peruvian exports of fresh mango totaled $237 million, reflecting a drop of 20 percent, compared to the $296 million reported in the previous campaign, the general manager of Fluctuante, David Sandoval, told Agraria.

In terms of volume, in the 2023-2024 campaign, 82,000 tons were shipped, showing a contraction of 68 percent compared to the 262,000 tons shipped in the previous campaign.

The smaller drop in value compared to volume is explained by the high price that the product registered in the international market due to the lower supply of the fruit.

Sandoval indicated that the price of fresh mango more than doubled (grew 145 percent), going from $1.55 per kilogram on average in the 2022-2023 campaign to $3.79 per kilo on average registered in the 2023-2024 campaign.

He also said that of the total volume shipped in the 2023-2024 campaign (82,000 tons), Piura was the main exporting region with 56,000 tons, reflecting a reduction of 74 percent, and participated with 68.3 percent of the total. It is followed by Áncash with 19,000 tons (down 20 percent) and Lambayeque with 7,000 tons (down 54 percent).

In the 2023-2024 campaign, fresh Peruvian mangoes reached 36 markets and were sent by 148 export companies. He added that of the total fresh mango exported, 73.1 percent was shipped by sea, 23.2 percent was shipped by air, and only 3.6 percent was shipped by land.

The main destinations for fresh mango from Peru in the 2023-2024 campaign were: the Netherlands, where 40 percent of the total went (in the previous campaign this market concentrated 36 percent of the total); U.S. with 30 percent of the total (36 percent of the total in the last campaign); Spain with 8 percent (5 percent of the total in the last campaign); UK with 6 percent (5 percent of the total in the last campaign); others 16 percent (17 percent of the total in the last campaign).

In the 2023-2024 campaign, the main exporting companies of fresh mango from Peru were:

  • Camposol with 13,000 tons for $35 million (down 22 percent in volume and up 116 percent in value compared to the previous campaign);
