Peruvian table grape exports for the 2022/2023 campaign should be between 550,000 and 600,000 tons, generating over $1.5 billion in sales.
This would result in Peru possibly becoming the world’s leading exporter of table grapes in terms of volume, surpassing Chile, Fernando Cilloniz Benavides, president of the consulting firm Inform@ccion told Agraria.
It should be noted that in the 2021/2022 campaign, Peru positioned itself as the leader in global table grape exports in terms of value.
Cilloniz said Peru exports table grapes every month of the year, with the largest volumes being shipped from October-March. This campaign is set to be extended with heavier early and late fruit.
“We are entering the important months for table grapes,” Cilloniz said. “In October we will have more early grapes, in December and January, which is the peak of the campaign, there will be a lot of fruit and in February, March and even April there will be a lot of grapes, because the producers have pruned late.”
The Association of Producers and Exporters of Table Grapes of Peru (Provid) estimates that Peruvian exports of table grapes in the 2022/2023 campaign would reach 71.5 million boxes, reflecting an increase of 11 percent compared to the previous campaign.
However, inflation has Peruvian producers and exporters on alert because table grapes are considered a non-essential product for consumers.
