From January through July of this year, Peruvian avocado exports totaled 407,349 tons, reflecting a growth of 19 percent when compared to the first seven months of 2020, as reported by Agraria.

The Hass Avocado Producers Association (ProHass) estimates that avocado exports will exceed 473,000 tons for the 2021 campaign which ends in the second half of September.

July was the month with the highest growth with 152 percent more than 2020, reflecting an additional 40,278 tons. April also stood out with a growth of 144 percent, reflecting an additional 18,913 tons. January and March recorded 832 and 6,447 ton increases, respectively.

Among the main destinations were the Netherlands with 38 percent of the total or 154,025 tons, followed Spain and the U.S.

While the Spanish market maintained its 18 percent share in the two periods, with a 19 percent growth, the U.S. market decreased 4 percent of its share. This was due to the 5 percent drop in its imports of Peruvian avocados, going from 72,397 tons purchased between January to July 2020 to 68,418 tons so far in 2021.
