Just eight months after she was appointed CEO of Seattle-based PCC Community Markets BB #:164071, former Kroger and H-E-B executive Suzy Monford has resigned.
Monford’s tenure with the retailer was challenged by more than the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the cooperative’s members didn’t gel with some of the direction the grocer took during Monford’s tenure, calling initiatives like self-checkout not “worker friendly.”
After Monford spoke against a $4 an hour hazard pay proposal by government officials, cooperative members voted to add two workers to its board of trustees.
In a statement released by the PCC board, Monford said she plans to pursue other career opportunities.
“Being part of PCC has been a very rewarding experience, and I am fortunate to have been part of the co-op community.”
Paul Davis, chairman of the board of trustees said in a statement the search process for a new CEO begins immediately, with former board member Brad Brown taking over as interim CEO. Brown previously was senior vice president of digital retail at REI.
