MONTEREY, CA – Markon Cooperative Inc., BB #:123315 Salinas, CA, showed its new 100 percent recyclable cardboard clamshell for its strawberries at the Produce Marketing Association’s Foodservice Expo July 27.
Hana Mohsin, multi-unit accounts associate, said the foodservice packaging also uses a vegetable-based ink in its effort to reduce plastic packaging in the supply chain.
Strawberries may be field-packed in the 4/2-pound option. She said California Giant Berry Farms, BB #:121061 Watsonville, CA, is already testing the packaging.
“We’re committed to being more sustainable,” she said, adding that the company plans to further develop the packaging to offer other fruits and vegetables in the future.
