axios-harris-poll

How can a company that operates in only six states rank so high in yet another nationwide list? In this case, Rochester, NY-based Wegmans Food Markets’ reputation precedes it.

Wegmans came in No. 1 on The Axios Harris Poll list of which companies in the U.S. have The Best and Worst Reputations. The annual study has a two-part methodology, first identifying the most “visible” reputations, then having a second, larger survey ranking those visible companies based on reputation.

Phase 1 was conducted online in November and included 6,000 adult respondents in the U.S.

Phase 2 was conducted in January and included more than 18,000 respondents and approximately 300 ratings per company.

Wegmans scored high in categories like Ethics, Products/Services, Citizenship, Culture and Character.

Lakeland, FL-based Publix Super Markets also scored high, No. 6 this year, with high scores in Ethics, Character, Citizenship and Growth.

Other retailers that scored in the Top 50 included:

  • Costco, at No. 18;
  • Kroger at No. 21; and
  • Aldi at No. 23.

Retailers that scored in the Bottom 50 included:

  • Target, at No. 72;
  • Dollar General at No. 76; and
