Families who are eligible for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are less likely to purchase both healthy foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, and sweets when buying groceries online compared to in-store, finds a new study by a team of nutrition researchers.

The pilot program will enable the Medicare/Medicaid population that FarmboxRx services to supplement the healthy food benefits provided through their health plan with SNAP dollars.

The USDA today released a re-evaluation of the Thrifty Food Plan, used to calculate SNAP benefits. As a result, the average SNAP benefit – excluding additional funds provided as part of pandemic relief – will increase for Fiscal Year 2022 beginning on October 1, 2021.

Expanded state roll-outs of SNAP redemption online in 2020 grew the value from less than $3 million in February to more than $246 million in December.

Spending on USDA’s food and nutrition assistance programs jumped 30 percent in fiscal year (FY) 2020 to an inflation-adjusted record of $122.1 billion, abruptly reversing a six-year decline.

As part of this new program, EBT SNAP participants in the available states will be able to shop from ALDI via the Instacart online site and mobile app.
