George W. Jenkins founded Publix Super Markets in 1930 in Winter Haven, FL. After more than 90 years, the chain, now headquartered in Lakeland, has close to 1,300 stores in seven states, with almost two-thirds of those located in its home state.

Publix has been recognized on Forbes’ America’s Best Employers by State list for the fourth year in a row, this year ranked No. 3 in South Carolina. The company also ranked No. 28 in Florida, No. 26 in Georgia, No. 23 in North Carolina, No. 20 in Tennessee and No. 19 in Alabama.

The Publix Produce for Kids cause marketing campaign wrapped on June 28 with 13 produce partners providing 852,000 meals to the 35 Feeding America member food banks in the Publix market area.

After 48 years of dedicated service, Publix Super Markets’ Vice President of Marketing Mark Irby has announced his decision to retire at the end of February 2022.
