IFPA joins group calling for changes at FDA

On Monday, dozens of organizations representing consumers, industry leaders, and state and local regulators, including International Fresh Produce Association, Consumer Reports, Stop Foodborne Illness, Consumer Brands Association, and the Association of Food and Drug Officials called on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to strengthen leadership and accountability in FDA’s food safety and nutrition program.

According to the CDC, as of February 1, 2022, 17 people infected with the outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes have been reported from 13 states. Illnesses started on dates ranging from August 16, 2014 to December 30, 2021 (one case occurred in 2014 and the remaining cases occurred between 2018 and 2021).
