California has been pummeled by several atmospheric river events over the past two to three weeks.

Demand exceeds supply in all California growing regions due to rain. Expect supplies to tighten in Florida and South Texas as these regions help fill the shortages out of California.

The Arizona/California desert growing region has experienced an early cold weather pattern with multiple mornings of freezing temperatures.

Oxnard, California is the primary celery growing region; disease (fusarium) pressure is dramatically reducing harvestable yields.

The California season will wrap up in late December. Expect pricing to gradually increase as the California season winds down.

Harvest has been cancelled in the Santa Maria and Oxnard growing regions Monday, December 12 through Tuesday, December 13, due to rainfall.

It’s a classic case of supply and demand in the celery market. Prices have been on the rise in December as crops transition and supplies struggle to keep up with consumer demand.

Santa Maria and Oxnard, California have received 0.50”- 0.75” of rain over the past 24 hours. Another storm is forecast for tonight December 2 through Sunday December 4.

Arizona and California desert growing areas have had some problems with cold and ice slowing harvest and limiting yields, but vegetable supplies are projected to increase.
