Since the beginning of 2024, as of October 28, Peru exported 210,658,965 kilos of fresh mandarins, showing an increase of 31.95 percent compared to the 159,652,055 kilos shipped in the same period of the previous year, according to Agraria, citing the president of the consulting firm Inform@cción, Fernando Cillóniz Benavides.
2024 is the year of the largest shipments of fresh mandarins by Peru, surpassing what was recorded in 2022 (206,310,765 kilos).
“We have grown without having new plantations, only based on greater productivity,” said Cillóniz Benavides. “In this way we have overcome the barrier of 200 thousand tons.”
He explained that the main exporting regions of mandarins from Peru in the period analyzed this year were Ica with 115,569,463 kilos, reflecting an increase of 37.5 percent compared to the 84,075,195 kilos reported in 2023. This region accounted for 54.9 percent of the total.
Another important exporting region of this fruit was Lima with shipments of 77,641,129 kilos, registering an increase of 42.7 percent versus the 54,428,621 kilos of the previous year, participating with 36.9 percent of the total exported.
The main destination for fresh mandarins from Peru this year was North America, where 82,900,485 kilos were sent, followed by Europe with 77,030,013 kilos, Latin America with 36,458,754, and Asia with 14,820,577, among others.
