Peruvian grape exports reached $1.26 billion in 2021, registering an increase of 22 percent when compared to the previous year and positioning itself as the world’s leading exporter of fresh grapes, according to Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).
Last year Peru surpassed Chile ($928 million), as the world’s main grape supplier, followed by the U.S. ($782 million) and China ($757 million).
“The achievements made in exports in 2021 are a clear example of the resilience of exporters and the growth potential of our products,” the head of the sector, Roberto Sánchez told Agraria. “From the Mincetur, we will continue to promote their shipments through the strengthening of capacities, commercial promotion and access to new markets.”
The main destinations for grape shipments are the U.S. ($514 million, with an increase of 10 percent), the EU ($239 million, increase of 31 percent), Hong Kong ($128 million, increase of 34 percent), the UK ($68 million, increase of 26 percent), Mexico ($54 million, increase of 40 percent), China ($44 million, increase of 22 percent), and South Korea ($43 million, increase of 119 percent).
