Peru should set a table grape export record this season.
Fernando Cilloniz Benavides, president of the consulting firm Inform@ccion, told Agraria that from May to December 27, 2021, Peru exported 281,000 tons of fresh table grapes reflecting an increase of 17 percent compared to the 240,000 tons shipped during the same period the previous year.
Benavides said the grape shipments so far this campaign was as follows: October 36,500,000 kilos, November 97,109,517 kilos, as of December 27 138,319,549 kilos.
Compared to the same months the previous year: October 37,000,000 kilos, November 80,875,744 kilos, and December 138,401,346 kilos.
“In the 2021/2022 campaign, we are going to break a record in exports of fresh table grapes because the months of January, February, and March are missing, and according to the information I have is that we are going to have more late grapes, especially in February and March,” Benavides said.
He projected that at the end of the 2021/2022 campaign, exports of fresh table grapes from Peru would grow 20 percent in volume, compared to what was achieved in the previous campaign.
The main destination markets for these table grapes are the U.S., the Netherlands, Hong Kong, the UK, and China, among others.
