In November 2024, Peruvian fresh mango exports showed a strong rebound, reaching $67.5 million, a value five times higher than the $12.5 million recorded in the same month in 2023.
This increase consolidated the recovery of the sector, which since October began to show an upward trend after months of moderate results, according to Agraria.
With this performance, accumulated fresh mango exports between January and November 2024 have already exceeded $268 million, surpassing the $254 million exported throughout 2023.
In terms of volume, mango shipments in November of this year reached 44,799 tons, almost ten times greater than the 4,524 tons shipped in the same month last year. Although the average price decreased, from $2.76 per kilogram in 2023 to $1.51 this year, the increase in supply allowed a significant expansion of the total value of shipments.
Of the 36 destinations where the product arrived in November 2024, the United States ranked as top market, concentrating 40 percent of total exports, with 17,180 tons worth $27.3 million. This was thirteen times more in volume and almost eleven times more in value than that recorded last year, when 1,269 tons were exported for $2.5 million. However, the average price in this market decreased from $2.01 to $1.59 per kilogram.
The Netherlands ranked second, accounting for 26 percent of shipments, with 13,392 tons valued at $17.7 million. Compared to last year, exported volumes grew fourteen times, although the value multiplied by eight due to a drop in the average price, from $2.39 in 2023 to $1.32 this year.
South Korea was the third most important market, with an 8 percent share. This destination received 1,610 tons for $5.2 million, thirteen times more in volume and eight times more in value than in 2023. However, the average price also fell, from $5.29 to $3.25 per kilogram.
Regarding Peruvian exporters in this last month, Agrocosta Perú S.A.C. (10 percent share), Sunshine Export S.A.C. (9 percent) and Jumar Perú S.A.C. (7 percent) led fresh mango shipments. Agrocosta shipped mainly to the United States, representing 65 percent of all its shipments; followed by the Netherlands, with 22 percent. Last year, this company supplied mainly Spain and the Netherlands, marking a significant change in its markets.
Sunshine, which did not have a significant participation in 2023, gained ground this year in the United States, representing 47 percent of its shipments, as well as in the Netherlands (32 percent). For its part, Jumar Perú S.A.C. maintained the United States as its main destination (56 percent) and replaced Canada with South Korea (23 percent) as its second most important market this year.
