The FDA posted several recall announcements this week that are related to the cucumber recall initiated by grower Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. in Sonora, Mexico.
The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium infections linked to American/slicer cucumbers grown by Agrotato.
On December 3, 2024, Walmart recalled Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices sold at stores in TX. On December 4, 2024, JFE, Supreme Produce, and Yummi Sushi initiated recalls of food products containing recalled cucumbers at Kroger stores in AZ, CO, LA, TX, and WY, and King Soopers stores in CO.
FDA says, as of December 5, there are 68 illnesses, 18 hospitalizations, and zero deaths with this outbreak, and the last illness onset is November 16, 2024.
FDA released this outbreak updated December 5, 2024:
American/slicer cucumbers grown by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. in Sonora, Mexico and sold by importers on or after October 12, 2024.
SunFed Produce, LLC (SunFed Produce), Baloian Farms of Arizona Co., Inc. (Baloian Farms), and Russ Davis Wholesale (Russ Davis) initiated voluntary recalls of all sizes of fresh American/slicer cucumbers grown by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. in Sonora, Mexico.
Russ Davis recalled products containing recalled cucumbers sold under Crazy Fresh, Quick & Easy, and Kowalski’s Markets brands. Additional images and information are available in the recall notice.
Walmart recalled Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices sold at Walmart stores in TX. Product images and information are available in the recall notice.
JFE Franchising, Inc. (JFE), Supreme Service Solutions LLC (Supreme Produce), and Yummi Sushi LLC (Yummi Sushi) recalled Snowfox, Snowfruit, Supreme Produce, and Yummi Sushi brand products containing recalled cucumbers sold at Kroger stores in AZ, CO, LA, TX, and WY and King Soopers stores in CO.
Symptoms of Salmonella Infection
Illness usually occurs within 12 to 72 hours after eating food that is contaminated with Salmonella, and the symptoms usually last four to seven days. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Children younger than five, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe infections.

Baloian Farms Recall: City Market (CO, UT, WY); King Soopers (CO, WY); Smart & Final (AZ, CA, NV) and food service customers in AK, AZ, CA, CO, IA, ID, KS, MA, MO, MI, MT, NC, NV, NY, OR, TX, WA, and WI.
Russ Davis Recall: foodservice and retail customers in IA, IL, KS, MI, MN, MT, ND, NE, SD, WI, and WY.
Walmart Recall: retail customers in TX.
JFE Recall (Snowfox and Snowfruit brands): Kroger retail stores in AZ, CO, LA, TX, and WY.
Supreme Produce Recall: Kroger and King Soopers retail stores in CO and TX.
Yummi Sushi Recall: Kroger retail stores in TX.
Distribution has been confirmed for states listed above, but product may have been distributed further, reaching additional states.

Recommendation
- Retailers and distributors that purchased recalled products from SunFed Produce, Baloian Farms, or Russ Davis should discard any recalled product and notify their customers of the recall.
- Recalled cucumbers were packaged in bulk cardboard containers labeled with the SunFed or Pamela label, in a generic white box or black plastic crate with a sticker that says Agrotato, S.A. de C.V, or in clear plastic packages of various sizes with a 7-digit lot code beginning with “X”.
- Retailers that have or had recalled product should clean and sanitize any areas that could have come into contact with recalled products. If recalled cucumbers were sold in bulk bins or displays, retailers should discard the contents and use extra care to clean and sanitize bins and displays before refilling.
- Retailers and distributors that received cucumbers grown by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. should stop use of the product.
- Retailers that are unsure if they received recalled product may need to contact their supplier.
- Consumers should check their refrigerators and freezers for recalled cucumbers, processed recalled cucumbers, and products containing recalled cucumbers from SunFed Produce, Baloian Farms, Russ Davis, Walmart, JFE, Supreme Produce, and Yummi Sushi. Recalled cucumbers may have a sticker that says “SunFed Mexico” or are packaged in a clear PamPak branded bag of 6 individual cucumbers with UPC 8 2540107010 6. Recalled food products may be sold under Snowfruit, Snowfox, Supreme Produce, or Yummi Sushi labels at Kroger and King Sooper retail stores. - If you have recalled products, throw them away, and clean and sanitize surfaces they touched. Customers who purchased recalled cucumbers may be notified by their grocery store to discard recalled cucumbers.
- If you bought whole, fresh American/slicer cucumbers on or after October 12, 2024, and can’t tell where they are from, ask your purchase location if they are part of the recall or throw them away.
- Contact your health care provider if you think you may have symptoms of a Salmonella infection after eating recalled cucumbers.
