This is a crop update from Markon Cooperative BB #:123315 released January 27, 2023

The Arizona and California desert growing region experienced very cool wind gusts, upwards of 30 MPH yesterday January 26, bringing this morning temperatures down into the low-30°s. Harvesting crews will be delayed up to three hours with loading delays to be expected.

More ice events to linger through the weekend with chance of showers Monday, January 30.

On January 26, Markon reported green leaf and romaine supplies are ample in the Arizona/California desert growing regions. Iceberg stocks are a bit tighter compared to previous weeks, as multiple days of lettuce ice have stalled growth.

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Premium Green Leaf is readily available out of the Arizona/California desert growing region
  • MFC Premium Iceberg and Romaine are being packed regularly; Markon Best Available (MBA) is being substituted as needed due to light case weights
  • Quality is good; epidermal blistering, fringe burn, insect pressure, and mildew are present in some lots
  • Green leaf and romaine prices are expected to remain fairly steady into next week
  • Iceberg markets will inch up as continued cold weather impacts the Arizona/California desert region, lowering volume.
