The Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa) released a bulletin stating that Chilean vegetable exports reached $331.2 million FOB between January and July 2022, reflecting an increase of 8.5 percent when compared to the same period the previous year.
Fresh vegetable exports accounted for 14.5 percent of this value and frozen vegetable exports for 7.4 percent, as reported by Odepa. The largest values are sauces at 35.3 percent and seeds at 35.1 percent.
Tomatoes accounted for 36.8 percent of the total value and 55.4 percent of the total volume of vegetables exported, with 95.6 percent corresponding to tomato paste. Tomato exports increased 3.7 percent in volume and 45.3 percent in value during this period, rising from $83.8 million to $121.8 million FOB.
They were followed by garlic, accounting for 7.4 percent of the vegetable export value and 7.7 percent of the volume, with 98.9 percent corresponded to fresh garlic. The value and volume of fresh garlic exports decreased during this period by 25.4 percent and 8.1 percent, respectively, when compared to the same period the previous year.
Onions followed as the third most important vegetable export during this period, accounting for 7.3 percent of the value, but second most important in terms of volume accounting for 27.4 percent. Fresh onion exports accounted for 84.4 percent of the export value. Onions experienced the greatest volume increase in exports between January and July 2022, increasing by 16,700 tons, or 63.7 percent, over the same period the previous year.
