Peruvian fresh onion exports fell significantly in value and volume in early 2022.
From January to May 2022, Peruvian fresh onion exports totaled $17.9 million reflecting a decrease of 32.44 percent compared to the $26.5 million reached in the same months the previous year, as well as 60.4 million kilos reflecting a decrease of 23.67 percent compared to the 79.1 million kilos shipped in the same months the previous year, according to Agraria, using figures from Agrodata Peru.
At this time last year, the price of fresh onions exported by Peru reached an average of 34 cents per kilogram, while this year it reached 30 cents per kilogram, reflecting a decrease of 12 percent.
The main destinations for fresh Peruvian onions for this time period were the U.S. with $8,396,609 (47 percent of the total), Colombia with $4,956,791 (28 percent of the total), Spain with $3,512,449 (20 percent of the total).
Other destinations include Chile with $439,235 (2 percent of the total), the Netherlands with $122,935 (1 percent of the total), Bolivia with $20,541, and others with $242,657.
