California may miss out on rising strawberry demand

strawberry

Rain is expected to keep down California strawberry supplies as new year demand for the fruit begins its annual pull.

According to a report from Markon Cooperative BB #:123315, West Coast supplies should remain extremely limited well into January due to persistent rain. Harvesting was limited this week and sometimes completely missed.

Meanwhile, volume from Mexico and Florida is rising seasonally.

Prices have fallen slightly through December and now sit at just below $20 per flat of 8 1-pound containers for conventional strawberries from all production regions. According to USDA, prices were about $4 lower per flat at the same time last year.
