Post-Mother’s Day has always been a cheap time to buy flowers, and now, it looks like a great time to buy lettuce.
Prices have fallen by about one-third in the past month from California shipping regions, which have about 99 percent of the U.S. market right now.
Markon Cooperative BB #:123315, based in Salinas, CA, is telling buyers that lettuce is in excellent quality and low prices.
“After successfully fulfilling increased Mother’s Day demand for fresh produce items, Salinas volume remains strong,” it reported May 11.
“Lettuce items in particular are exhibiting excellent quality. Case weights for Markon First Crop (MFC) Premium Romaine (24-count packs) are as high as 40 pounds. Weights for MFC Premium Iceberg Lettuce (24-count packs) range from 46 to 53 pounds. Supplies are expected to remain high for at least the next two to three weeks.”
Markon says green leaf, iceberg and romaine are all seeing high volumes and quality and low prices.
