RINGGOLD, GA (May 18, 2020) – U.S. Department of Agriculture Awards a $1.8 million contract to Chattanooga produce distributor, T&T Produce BB #:169010, as part of the “Farmers to Families Food Box Program” becoming one of only two in Tennessee to be approved and one of five in Georgia. T&T Produce will be delivering boxes to nonprofits in Chattanooga, Knoxville, Nashville, and Birmingham with the first deliveries taking place Monday, May 18, 2020, and lasting through June 30, 2020.
Through this program, the United States Department of Agriculture will partner with distributors and wholesalers that will provide pre-approved boxes of fresh produce, dairy, and meat products to food banks, community and faith-based organizations, and other nonprofits.
The contract allows a partnership with the USDA and T&T Produce to package and deliver 15,000 produce boxes each week to aid in relief during these uncharted waters. Tanner Buchanan, T&T Produce’s Director of Operations, said that the company’s “heart for this program is rooted in knowing that our own family and friends have been affected by the current pandemic” and this box program “fulfills a pressing need right now.”
A list of approved partners T&T Produce will be delivering produce boxes include, but not limited to:
- Chattanooga Area Food Bank
- Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, and North East Tennessee
- Tennessee School Nutrition Program
- YoungLife of Chattanooga and Birmingham
- Action Ministries in Rome, GA
- Other local non-profit partners
“Supporting our community has been the pillar and leading encouragement of our business model since T&T Produce’s beginning in 1989,” said Anthony Buchanan, CEO of T&T Produce. “This USDA partnership reflects our desires to quickly get fresh produce in the homes of people that need it most.”
