See Avocados from Mexico’s Super Bowl ads before the Big Game

What do avocados and dogs have in common?

According to veterinarian advice they aren’t a natural pair, as skins and pits typically are toxic to household pets, but for this year’s Super Bowl ad, Avocados from Mexico is doing what it can to help dogs in need.

The group has been teasing this year’s campaign over the past couple of weeks with ad clips showing a “dog show” style competition, the “53rd Annual Human Canine Show” where humans compete for Avocados from Mexico.

The ads, hosted by actress Kristin Chenoweth, are scheduled to run in the second half of the game on Sunday and also include bonus online content, including a 60-second spot where the human wins a guacamole-filled trophy.

The organization takes a lighthearted, irreverent approach to these ads, Alvaro Luque, AFM president, told Ad Age.

“We wanted to come up with someone that is not only our first female face, but someone that really, really works for the concept, because we wanted this to have the same humor, the same lighthearted idea that we’ve had,” he told Ad Age.

The organization also is using the campaign to draw attention to dog rescues and adoptions. They’ve established a microsite where visitors can find their “paw-fect” match.

Here’s a sample of this year’s ads:
